Our second showing will be on Friday, December 4th at 8pm. There will be no panel discussion prior to the movie on this date but there might just be snacks!

Dallywater�s Tea Room & Art Gallery invites you to share in a most extraordinary experience as they present a turn-of-the-century Afternoon Christmas Tea inspired by Edwardian England.

The Edwardian Era is often regarded as a romantic golden age of country homes, garden parties and extravagant celebrations. It was the Belle �poque; a time of indulgence and opulence before the First World War. The class system was very much in place, dividing the upper middle classes from the lower classes. Every well-to-do family had servants and these families enjoyed luxuriously prepared Christmas feasts. A typical Christmas Day menu in Edwardian England would have consisted of an assortment of rich, well flavored, and often exotic dishes.

Dinner was served late, so a large meal of assorted dishes would have been served in the afternoon. Kedgeree (a curried egg and smoked fish dish from India), devilled kidneys, Guinea Fowl, Welsh Rarebit, pastries, scones & preserves were enjoyed. For dinner, a Roast Beef with horseradish or a fine Roast Goose with chestnut stuffing would take pride of place accompanied by potatoes and a selection of winter vegetables roasted in the fat of the beef or goose. The cook would have chosen from parsnips, brussels sprouts, leeks, onions, turnips or swede. Desserts would be rich dishes, often served with brandy butter or cream, such as mincemeat pie, apple pie or bread pudding.
